About the event
This is a special one off Forest School session for all of the family with children from 18months to 7 years and their grown ups. Grown ups must stay for this session.
The sessions will last for 2.5 hours in our beautiful woodland in Weston, Hertfordshire. The children are free to explore the space and we encourage them to lead their own learning. There will be areas set up for them to engage in natural messy/sensory play, cosy book areas, plenty of things to climb and places to play. We find the mixed age groups develop a real sense of community and develops lots of opportunities for play, nurture and learning from one another.
Forest School benefits children (who attend regularly) in so many ways; greater independence, imagination, improved social and communication skills, physical development, risk management, understanding of the world, the ability to nurture, resilience, confidence and also their physical and mental health.
It is also a great space for parents to engage with their children in a calming natural environment and there is nothing better than a warm drink around a campfire at the end!
FAQ:
Do I need to pay for my baby in a sling?
- No, families do not need to pay for babies still in slings/carriers if attending with one paying child/adult.
What do you do if it rains?
- We have fun jumping in the muddy puddles! We do have some tarps we can put up to shelter some areas but the children normally just want to play out in the rain! In the event of storms or high winds, sessions are cancelled for everyone's safety,
Kit List
The sessions are 100% outdoors, rain or shine! We have tarpaulins we put up and have some natural shelter however the children must be dressed appropriately so are ready for all weathers! There is no such thing as bad weather... just bad clothing!
The children must wear/bring:
Waterproof trousers and jacket/suit
Wellingtons or waterproof shoes
Thick socks
Woolly hat, scarf and gloves. (weather dependent)
Complete change of clothes in a small backpack (long sleeved/legs to protect from bites, stings etc and two pairs of socks!)
The best way to keep warm is with lots of layers. We suggest a pair of tights/leggings under trousers and a vest, short sleeved top, long sleeved top, thin jumper, thicker jumper and a waterproof coat! It is better to have to take layers off than not have enough, being cold spoils the fun! It is always colder in the woods than the forecast temperature due to shade from the tree canopy.
Parents please bring:
A travel mug/cup for a warm hot drink for yourselves! (We have smaller mugs for the children).
Booking
Book online and ensure you have filled out a registration form for your child.
